Tell us about your business
Since 1957 Vhi has been helping people in Ireland to access the best value, quality private healthcare through its extensive range of diverse healthcare products and services. With one million customers, we continue to be the market leader for health insurance in Ireland. Our brand promise is ‘When you need us, we’re there’ and this is true for practically every medical eventuality – whether you need cover for hospital treatment, daycare treatment, day-to-day expenses, multi-trip travel insurance, expatriate insurance, dental, occupational health, employee assistance programmes, or hospital in the home services. Our customers and their dependants are covered individually, or through membership of one of more than 8,000 corporate and affinity group schemes countrywide.
My role involves working with prospective new customers, understanding their healthcare needs and developing solutions to support employees on their journey to staying physically and mentally well. Our healthcare proposition includes market leading wellness and mental health initiatives and supports combined with hospital and dental cover.
How did you get into the industry?
I completed my BA in Economics and Sociology in NUIG and moved to Dublin in 2004. With a background in Economics I felt that Insurance would lead to a variety of interesting opportunities and I certainly wasn’t disspointed. The health insurance market is dynamic and constantly evolving which is enjoyable!

How has being a member of Galway Chamber helped you?
Networking is an important part of my role and the chamber facilitates many networking events during the year which helps people interact with each other and create vital business connections. Galway Chamber always works in partnership with you and are constantly open to new ideas and suggestions
What has give you most satisfaction in business?
Developing and tailoring Health & Wellness programmes for companies and knowing that employees have had access to the latest new drugs and technologies when at their most vulnerable. The positive outcomes and experiences always give me great satisfaction
Who are your business icons or inspiration?
I find Bill Gates very interesting and his vision of helping the world become a much better place through his Giving Pledge is really admirable. People like him, who inspire others to follow their actions for the greater good and not for self praise are truly remarkable in my opinion.
What was the best piece of advice you have been given?
“Everything matters, but nothing matters that much’ – A good colleague mentioned this recently and I love it because it strikes just the right balance.
