Why did you choose to locate in Galway?
Galway has grown over the past 21 years into a thriving business city with a vibrant culture that also offers excellent scope for emerging technologies and enterprise to develop and grow.
What changes or new trends have you seen in recent years with regard to insurance protection?
Anyone in business dealing with electronic data, whether on computers, servers or on-line, has become increasingly aware of the reality of cyber threats. The need for protection against exposure arising out of Internet communications is greater than ever. Cyber liability has become a necessary requirement for businesses today. We ourselves have seen a dramatic increase in the past 3 years of incidents of cyber threats in the O’Leary Group alone as well as with our customers. As a result, we have taken measures to increase our IT security and promote greater awareness among staff of the need for vigilance. We have employed a specialist in cyber Insurance to advise ourselves and our customers on the best solutions to deal with modern day cyber threats.
What are the current challenges facing your industry?
One of the biggest challenges for the insurance industry right now is the availability of affordable insurance. This is particularly prevalent in the leisure sector where there is a very high footfall and so the risk of claims are higher than in other sectors, which in turn leads to higher premiums for customers. As a broker we work closely with our clients to try to achieve a workable solution to their insurance needs, which is not always possible, but it’s not from lack of trying on our part.
Ultimately this is an issue that needs to be addressed by government, in conjunction with relevant parties and sooner rather than later.
What is a good piece of advice you have been given?
Never stop building meaningful relationships with customers and your industry. This has stood us in good stead over the past 21 years.
