President of Galway Chamber Maurice O’Gorman this morning welcomed the announcement by Apple that it’s Data Centre in Derrydonnell, Athenry has been given the legal go ahead.
‘This is great news for Athenry, Galway and the Region’, he said.
‘The delays have been worrying and difficult and this outcome is great news. Both cases of opposition were dismissed by the judge today and as it stands Apple in Athenry can go ahead.
Athenry has welcomed Apple since the first announcement, as has Galway Chamber. We see this as a great commitment by Apple to Ireland and to the West of Ireland….this is a project with a pan European dimension and we’re so proud that Galway has been chosen as home to Apples largest data centre project in Europe.
‘This development ties in with a good regional enterprise strategy, which is something that we have been vocal on.
‘This announcement today is hugely positive for the region. The €850 million investment is hugely impactful as are the 100 longterm and 300 construction jobs
‘But just as important is the commitment by Apple to Ireland and to the region. We all know how important this is in attracting other similar industries to the region,’ the President concluded.
