Welcome back to Galway Chamber’s Business of the Week series. This week, we spoke to Tony Kavanagh, Director, Sherry FitzGerald.
My name is Tony Kavanagh, I am a Director with Sherry FitzGerald and I am responsible for running and building our successful business here in Galway along with my colleagues. Working as a team we fully embrace the company ethos: It’s not just about property. It’s about people.
Tell us about Sherry FitzGerald:
Sherry FitzGerald is a national Property Advisory Company with 96 branded offices, 69 which are operated by our franchise partners. The company was originally set up in Dublin in 1982 by Mark FitzGerald and Philip Sherry and has grown in its 37 years to become the largest property advisory group in Ireland. The Galway City branch opened in 1998 and has being going from strength to strength for 21 years.
How did you get started in your industry?
I went straight from school into 1 year full -time course in DIT, Rathmines, Dublin 6 followed by a 3-year apprenticeship in with Clarke Delahunt Auctioneers in Wicklow and so I have worked in the business for 33 years at this point, 20 of which I’m delighted to say have been in Galway.
What are the services Sherry FitzGerald offer their clients?
Sherry FitzGerald offer expert advice in residential sales, lettings, management and valuations of both new and existing residential property. We also offer independent financial advice through our specialist team in Sherry FitzGerald Financial Services who advise our clients on mortgages, mortgage protection, insurance, pension investment, life assurance and income protection. As independent advisors they will shop the market to secure the very best financial product to suit our clients’ needs, potentially saving them money over the lifetime of their mortgage. In addition, our franchise arm of the business offers local knowledge, insight and expertise in partnership with our local agents throughout Ireland.
What is the main challenge within the real estate market today?
Understanding that it’s not just about property, it’s about people. We recognise that the key to good communication is to build trust and long-term relationships with each client we encounter. To achieve this, we need to constantly focus and how best we can improve our client service to ensure that we can provide everything they need in an open and transparent manner.
How do Sherry FitzGerald stand out within such a competitive market?
We listen to our customers and we understand the importance of investing in our people across our branch network, so that when you meet us, we are exceptionally professional, knowledgeable about our local market and ready to provide the best client experience. We understand that the process of buying, selling, renting and raising financing can be a stressful time so we make sure that we do everything we can to make the journey as smooth as possible resulting in a successful result. Sherry FitzGerald understand we are working in a market and we always strive to get the best price for our clients and to offer the best value for money in the process.
Are there any major trends within the real estate industry currently?
We have recently launched our brand-new communications hub “mySherryFitz.ie” which allows our clients 24hr access to their property journey and our agents, where they can both make and view offers on properties of interest and arrange viewings at a time that suits them outside of normal office hours. We firmly believe that innovative progression such as this and improvements in how we interact with our clients is key to providing the very best personal service. We have recognised from listening to our clients that they want control over their property journey and we see this as a growing trend in the industry. By providing trust and transparency Sherry FitzGerald are leading the field in innovation by giving our clients what they want, at a time that suits them, through any channel of their choice.
One piece of advice:
Be honest, trustworthy, reliable and always prepared for change.
