Tell us about Maldron Hotel Oranmore.

How did you get started?
The hotel was built by Padraic and Delia Connolly in 1998. They partnered with Choice Hotels to open the Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre Galway in 1998. Dalata then purchased the hotel in 2007 and re-branded to the Maldron Hotel in 2008.
What does Galway offer the Maldron Hotel, with regard to the tourism and hospitality industry?
Galway is the destination many of our guests are coming to. The vibrancy of the city, the culture, the people, the entertainment, the scenery, the food.
What changes have you seen in Galway over the last 5 years?
Food has definitely developed in the region over the last 5 years, there is a fantastic selection of restaurants and pubs offer very good quality food.
What is the biggest challenge facing businesses in 2018, in your opinion?
The traffic in Galway is a constant concern for our guests. The skills shortage in our industry is noticeable. The uncertainty in relation to Brexit is also a big concern.
How has being a member of Galway Chamber helped you and the Maldron Hotel?
We believe in supporting local businesses and the opportunity to network with other members is invaluable also we have the opportunity to promote our business through the Chamber.
What one thing do you do every day that makes your business a success?
Consistency is so important in achieving success particularly in a fast moving customer service business, I always look for consistency in standards.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone just getting started in business, what would it be?
Team work is key. I am fortunate to have a great team who work really well together.
